John Ingham was born Shaw and enlisted Shaw (Lancashire) and lived Oldham he first served in Gallipoli from 11 July 1915 with the 9th Battalion and was killed in action Somme 26 September 1916 aged 30. He was the husband of Eva Ingham of 1 Canterbury Street, Higginshaw, Oldham.

Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

On 22 September the 9th Battalion occupied the front line in Constance Trench at Mailly-Maillet opposite Mouquet Farm. On 26 September they launched an attack on the farm and surrounding positions at Zolllern Redoubt and Trench, Stuff Redoubt and Hessian Trench. Relieved on 28 September they withdrew to dug outs at Ovillers, their casualties during two days fighting cost the Battalion 400 killed, wounded and missing.
