Reported in the Burnley Express of 6 October 1915: - SMILED IN DEATH. Hapton native killed in France. A native of Hapton lost his life in the recent heavy fighting in France. Word reached Mrs Lee of 6, Westwell Street, Great Harwood, on Saturday morning, of the death of her son, Private Richard Thomas Lee, of the 9th Battalion, Border Regiment. Private Lee who was only 19 years of age, was born at Green Nook Farm, Hapton and by occupation he was a weaver. Some of his relatives reside in Burnley.
